Soccer Club Structure
The Anchorage Youth Soccer Club (AYSC) was established in 1986 by Mary Norman. One of the first soccer clubs in Alaska and host of the oldest soccer tournament in the state, the Alaska Far North Invitational. AYSC prides itself on the quality of players both on and off the field. We are a full service club, offering TOPSoccer, a recreational league, futsal league, academy, and competitive levels. Our coaching and administration staff is made up of independent contractors and volunteers who want the best for each player.
We are a youth club that offers programs at all skill levels and age groups. Our primary focus is player and coach development. We use the latest techniques and methods to produce a talent hot bed for players to both enjoy the game of soccer (football) while advancing their game to the next level. We emphasize a 3 to 1 ratio of intense practices over games so players are able to make mistakes in a less stressful environment while providing challenging opportunities to learn.
To be the leading soccer club in Anchorage that is committed to developing both players and coaches while educating parents.
To offer a positive club culture and is committed to the development and growth of players to help them reach their goals. We want to prepare players for the physical, mental, and emotional complexities of the game, as well as teach them discipline and responsibility in life.
AYSC takes pride in educating and training players and coaches to a competitive level in a positive and fun environment. The Club promotes sportsmanship, integrity, leadership, respect, self-discipline, and character development by stressing the technical, tactical, physical, and mental components of the game.
Sportsmanship and team spirit are as important to us as being a highly skilled competitive player. In order to accomplish our philosophy, the Club has placed great emphasis on the following:
- Long term development of all players (not just the better ones)
- Providing an opportunity for our players to participate at all levels of play
- Conducting age-appropriate training sessions during the course of the year directed by certified and licensed coaches
- Offering a year round program for academy, recreational, and competitive players
- Conducting training sessions for all players under the direction of licensed coaches as well as our coaching directors
- Informing players and parents of the players’ progress throughout the year
- Encouraging our coaching staff to further their soccer education
The coaching staff has voted on three core values to best represent the club and its vision/mission statements.
Commitment – Commitment is the spirit of determination and dedication found in those who want to do more. It leads to the highest order of discipline for individuals and teams. It is the ingredient that enables 100-percent dedication to players and coaches. It inspires the unrelenting determination to achieve a standard of excellence in every endeavor.
Professionalism – Professionalism is the service to provide quality to both community and club to the best of our ability. A positive role model is being truthful, honest and dependable in all actions taken. In providing professional service is to commit to proficiency, reliability, and excellence in all aspects of conduct and performance. To be accountable to players we coach, club, and to one another.
Respect– Respect is showing regard for the worth of someone or something. It is to strive to be respectful of others, of our surroundings, in what we say and do, and most of all to have self worth of ourselves. “If we are respectful of others (opponents, referees, colleagues); then others will respect us.” RESPECT THE GAME!
